With all this in mind I would like to examine the first post we ever received “Just another grift”. Our reader took the time to express a key insight into how we all consume information and media. Something caused our reader to stop, think, label and then dismiss.
What is a Grift?
A grift is a deceitful scheme, a tactic used to exploit trust for personal gain. It preys on emotions and promises change but delivers little more than disappointment. In today’s climate, it’s no wonder so many are wary of efforts that ask for their support. But not all calls to action are created equal and this one is about integrity in leadership. As Mark Twain once said, “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” This timeless observation reminds us of the challenge truth faces in a world dominated by quick fixes and flashy narratives. History also records the truth, once it catches up, the truth empowered by our voice is the power that will endure.
The Psychology of “Just Another Grift”.
The phrase “just another grift” reflects distrust in our institutions and our organizations. It’s not surprising; decades of scandals and rampant misinformation have conditioned us to question motives and scrutinize actions. We are being bombarded with stories and snippets, partial truth, innuendos, exaggerations, all exhibiting a lack of integrity. The result is confusion and apathy.
